Better Watch Out – Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

by Ed Tiley

November on the Forgotten Coast is a transitional month. It is the official end of the Tropical Storm season, and the beginning of the Holiday season. By month’s end the lights of Christmas will be everywhere. Until then, however, there are lots of things on the calendar.
November 11th, of course, is Veterans Day. Apalachicola will celebrate the holiday with a Veterans Remembrance Ceremony at the new Veterans Memorial Plaza, which features the only replica of the Three Servicemen Statue outside of Washington DC’s Mall. Beginning at 11:00 am, the Willoughby R. Marks American Legion Post 106 will honor all veterans of all wars. Veterans Memorial Plaza is located at Market St. and Ave I.
November 21-23 the Panhandle Players will present The Odd Couple - Female Version at the Dixie Theatre. With Adele Hungerford and Margy Oehlert in the lead roles, this is a show you won’t want to miss. I’ve had the privilege of appearing opposite both of these ladies, and can tell you that they are both really good actors. (Continued)

The Forgotten Coast of Florida lies along the Panhandle. It is bounded on the West by Mexico Beach, St. Joe Beach and Port St. Joe. Going East you come to Simmons Bayou, Cape San Blas, Indian Pass, and The City of Apalachicola on the banks of the Apalachicola River. Continuing east you come to Eastpoint, St. George Island, Carrabelle, Lanark Village, St. James Island, St. Teresa Island, and Alligator Point in Franklin County, FL. As you cross the Ochlockonee River on Highway 98 you enter Wakulla County, FL and Ochlockonee Bay, Mashes Sands, Panacea, Live Oak Island, Shell Point and St. Marks. The St. Marks Lighthouse and nature preserve is the easternmost place on the Forgotten Coast. Each area is different, and all are uncrowded Natural Wonders.
